Blood Horse Maiden Watch: March 28 – April 3.
Mary LaRue
Wish You Well did exactly what was expected of her in her April 2 debut for partners Black Type Thoroughbreds, R.A. Hill Stable, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Kallenberg Farms, and trainer George Weaver. The American Freedom filly went wire-to-wire in a seven-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies at Gulfstream Park, winning by a half-length as the betting favorite.
Wish You Well popped out of the gate with Tyler Gaffalione aboard and went to the lead to set fractions of :22.10, :44.75, and 1:09.92 for six furlongs. The pair dug in late to score while Inventing closed gamely. Wish You Well finished the seven furlongs in a final time of 1:23.97 on a fast track.
Bred by Brereton Jones, Wish You Well was consigned by Wavertree Stables to The Gulfstream Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s Florida Select Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, where she sold to Black Type and R.A. Hill for $550,000.
Her sire is No. 11 on the second-crop sire list, and she is out of the Indian Charlie mare Listen to Libby, who is also the dam of grade 3 winner Chanteline and stakes winner Kell Paso. Wish You Well’s second dam is graded stakes winner You’renotlistening, who is also the grand dam of grade 1 winner Currency Swap.
