Creative Cause’s Significant Form dug deep to win Saturday’s $400,000 Ballston Spa S. (G2) at Saratoga, winning the prestigious 1 1/16-mile turf race by a neck in a five-horse blanket finish.
Getting a perfect ride from John Velazquez, Significant Form was tucked along the inside just behind the leaders most of the way, not coming off the hedge until upper stretch, when she ran down Conquest Hardcandy, then held off a quartet of challengers to finish the distance in 1:41.39 on the firm turf.
“She’s very good. It was special to be on her,” said Velazquez. “They told me she was a nice horse, and they were right about it. The way she ran down the lane, she responded right away and showed great fight.”
Bred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones, Significant Form was a $75,000 yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale. She later brought $575,000 at OBS April as a juvenile, and broke her maiden in the G3 Miss Grillo in just her second career start. Out of the unraced Harlan’s Holiday mare Church By The Sea, Significant Form is now 4-1-0 in 11 starts, with earnings of $694,865 for Peter and Stephanie Brant.
Significant Form, winner of the Intercontinental S. (G3) in June, is one of Creative Cause’s five graded stakes horses and nine stakes horses overall in 2019. A top-10 Fourth-Crop sire, Creative Cause’s progeny have earned more than $13.7 million to date.
