Boreas took the field wire-to-wire in a one-mile turf maiden special weight for 3-year-olds Saturday at Gulfstream Park, drawing off in the stretch to win by nearly four lengths.
After one start on the dirt a month ago, the bay son of Upstart may have found a home on the turf after the rousing victory. Though the race splits were not timed due to a clock malfunction, Boreas was pressed through the first six furlongs and still had plenty left to draw off with authority for the win.
Boreas was bred by Brereton C. Jones and is out of the unraced mare Deep in December, whose siblings include stakes winners Marquee Prince and Holiday Soiree. Boreas is owned by Alastar Thoroughbred Company LLC.
Upstart was a top-10 First-Crop sire of 2020 by both winners and progeny earnings. He is standing this year for $10,000 S&N.
