Few can argue against the statement that Saratoga 2-year-old racing is the toughest of it’s kind, so it’s always big news when a freshman sire is represented by a maiden special weight winner during this prestigious meet. Airdrie’s first-crop sire Haynesfield wasted little time in getting recognized on this big stage, as his talented first-time starter, Realm, won impressively during Saratoga’s opening weekend. Trained by the Kentucky Derby winning conditioner Barclay Tagg, who has a well earned reputation of one whose stock improves with age and experience, Realm showed he needed neither to get the job done as he pulled away to a convincing 1 3/4 length score. The colt looks poised for a bright future, as does his Grade 1 winning sire!
Congratulations to all of Realm’s connections: Breeders Morgan’s Ford Farm, Owners Eric Dattner, Harry Astarit and owner/trainer Barclay Tagg.
