In the span of 5 minutes, Stormin Fever gained two new maiden winners on Wednesday at Saratoga and Ellis Park (ok, so this was Central Time!)
Oz, a bay colt, had an extremely eventful trip at Saratoga. He spotted his rivals several lengths after a hesitant start, rushed up along the inside on the backstretch then rapidly gained ground on the turn. He slipped through along the rail to mount a challege, surged to the front and edged clear to win by a good length!
Oz ran the 5 1/2 furlongs one full second faster than the 2nd race at Saratoga – which was also a 2yo $41,000 Maiden contest at the same distance! Even more amazing was his win on the rail – on this day, he was the only horse to win along the rail on the very muddy and heavy track!!
Patriotic Fever, a bay filly, had a less dramatic win a few states away. She gained the lead early while racing three wide, was kept to her task by Calvin Borel and crossed the wire 3/4 lengths ahead of the favorite!
Stormin Fever now has 5 winners from his first crop – look for more headlines as racing gears up for the late summer and fall meets!
