Stormin Baghdad has only been off the board three times in his 16 career starts and really blossomed late in 2007 under the tutelage of Steve Asmussen. Stormin Baghdad sprinted to his first stakes win in a Thanksgiving Day Handicap at Fair Grounds clocking the 6 furlongs in 1:09.2. Drawing into the Bonapaw Stakes when it was taken off the turf he teamed up with Sean Bridgemohan this time going 5 1/2 panels. Breaking on top he stayed with a severe pace through the first quarter mile but dropped back to third until leaving the turn. Making his move along the rail he responded strongly to be clear by a length and finish with a kick to stop the clock in 1:04 flat and a 98 Beyer Speed rating.
