Creative Cause’s stellar 4-year-old filly Star of Night extended her winning streak to seven races with a 1 1/4-length score in the $75,000 Sadie Hawkins S. Friday evening at the Charles Town Races.
The gray filly has put together an excellent stat sheet with nine wins and a pair of seconds from 11 races, while earning $241,031 for Huntertown Farm LLC. Four of her nine wins have come in added-money races.
Friday’s seven-furlong Sadie Hawkins featured a rematch with Bridging the Gap, who would set the pace for most of the trip. Star of Night was midpack after the first quarter-mile before she began to close in on the leader. The two were on nearly even terms coming into the stretch, with Star of Night edging away from a stubborn Bridging the Gap to stop the timer in 1:24.50 on a fast main track.
“She was really coming into it good and she ran her race,” trainer Jeff Runco said of Star of Night, last year’s West Virginia-bred horse of the year. “She had been really training well. The track has been playing more for speed tonight, so you don’t want to be too far back. We’ve got to keep her happy for the next couple of months.”
Star of Night was bred by Heinz Steinmann and is out of the Malibu Moon mare Splediferous Moon. She hails from the family of Snow Ridge, winner of the San Carlos S. (G1) and four other graded races.
With 17 stakes winners and 32 stakes horses and over $21.6 million in progeny earnings, Creative Cause is in the top 10 sires of his generation. Providing outstanding value, his 2021 stud fee of $7,500 was the most economical of any sire ranked above him.
