Top-three Freshman Sire Cairo Prince got his fifth maiden special weight winner on Aug. 17 when Sexyama prevailed in a six-furlong turf race for 2-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.
A good second in both her previous turf tries, Sexyama prevailed by nearly a length on Friday. In between horses and under restraint, the dark gray finally found a clear path at the top of the stretch, when she accelerated strongly to take command. The final time on the firm turf was 1:10.69.
The winner was bred by Brereton Jones and is owned by Howling Pigeon Farms. Sexyama is out of Acadamie d’Amour and is a half-sister to stakes winner Cowboy Cool.
Cairo Prince’s list of impressive maiden special weight winners at tracks like Saratoga and Belmont Park have propelled him to second on the Kentucky First-Crop Sire list with nearly $300,000 in progeny earnings.
