Following her sensational score in the historic GII Matron Stakes at Belmont Park, Proud Spell demonstrated unquestionably that she is one of the best 2yo fillies in the nation with her powerful second place effort in the GI Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies. Despite struggling a bit to grab hold of the sloppy Monmouth Park track, Proud Spell was making up ground with each of her final strides on Indian Blessing and gave every indication that the longer distances that await her next season should offer no problem. Proud Spell is just one of her sire Proud Citizen’s stars this year, which include GIII winning European star River Proud as well as the graded and multiple stakes placed filly Dreabon’s Legacy. Second to only Posse on the freshman sire list and a top-5 overall juvenile sire, Proud Citizen is rapidly establishing himself as one of the nation’s truly elite young sires!
