One could make a strong case that no other stallion in the world has been as hot as Airdrie’s Proud Citizen over the last 30 days. With no fewer than four stakes winners during that period, three of them graded, Proud Citizen shows no signs of slowing down. This past weekend he was represented by GII Fair Grounds Oaks winner Believe You Can. A Grade III winner as a 2-year-old last season, Believe You Can has now firmly established herself as a leading contender for the historic Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. The next day, Proud Citizen’s Mark Valeski came within a half length of taking the GII $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby. He continues to be among the nation’s leading Kentucky Derby candidates.
This most recent success came on the heels of another extraordinary weekend just a week prior. That Saturday, Proud Citizen’s talented son Went the Day Well easily won the Grade III $500,000 Spiral Stakes, making a major name for himself on the Kentucky Derby trail. A day later, it was the older turf filly Vamo a Galupiar’s time to shine, as her impressive stretch rally earned her the Grade II Santa Ana Stakes at Santa Anita.
The Nation’s #4 Ranked General Sire as of April 2nd, Proud Citizen continues to establish himself as one of 2012’s truly elite sires.
