Majestic Dunhill, a 3-year-old son of Majesticperfection is two-for-two in his 2018 campaign after scoring a 1½-length victory over Like What I See in the $60,000 My Frenchman S. on Saturday at Monmouth Park.
The dark bay’s first stakes win was well deserved after an eventful trip. Tucked in fourth early on, Joe Bravo attempted to split horses with a quarter-mile to run, but was shut off. Bravo then sent Majest Dunhill to the fence, but was once again blocked. Switching back outside, he finally found clear running and surged to the front to win going away in 1:02.35 on the firm turf.
“His last race was good. This race was excellent,” said trainer George Weaver. “He showed a new dimension. He impressed me today. I’ve always liked this horse and he has been good but he’s at the stage of his career when he needs to step up and he did today.”
“It was worse than the (New Jersey) Belt Parkway out there with some of the traffic we had to deal with,” said Bravo. “But I was on the best horse. I just had to sit there and wait for my opening. I was able to keep him comfortable and when he was clear he was very strong.”
Weaver said Majestic Dunhill would be pointed next to the Quick Call at Saratoga on Aug. 8. The winner is now 3-0-2 in seven starts and has earned $131,795 for R. A. Hill Stable.
Grade 1 winner Majesticperfection now has nine black type horses this year. His largest crop to date are 2-year-olds of 2018.
