Majestic Dunhill last-to-first in $100,000 City of Laurel S.

Majesticperfection’s Majestic Dunhill, a sprint stakes winner on the grass this summer, transferred his success to the main track with a last-to-first half-length win in Saturday’s $100,000 City of Laurel at Laurel Park.

After getting squeezed back at the start, Majestic Dunhill found himself last in the field of nine. With a double-digit margin facing him entering the turn, Majestic Dunhill began to his advance while well out in the track. Still with a half-dozen lengths to make up at the top of the stretch, the dark bay was relentless in the final quarter-mile as he wrapped up the seven furlongs in 1:23.44 on a fast main track.

“This was his first time on the dirt. He ran very good in a lot of turf stakes and it was just a trial today. They supplemented him into this race so it was a big ask and I’m glad they did,” jockey Feargal Lynch said. “To be honest, I couldn’t see how far back I was but knew when I got him into the straight and got him outside I thought I was going to run them down.”

Majestic Dunhill has three wins, a second and two thirds from nine turf starts, with earnings of $215,714 for R. A. Hill Stable. He won the My Frenchman July 14 at Monmouth Park.

Pedigree notes from the TDN:

The winner is a half to Saturday’s 2-year-old Churchill allowance winner Hog Creek Hustle, as well as a yearling colt by Gemologist and a weanling colt by Fed Biz. His dam, an unraced daughter of SW/MGSP Ready for Fortune (More Than Ready), was bred back to Constitution.
