Another Broad split horses in mid-stretch and drew clear in the late stages to score a thrilling win in the $200,000 Top Flight Inv. April 14 at Aqueduct.
The 4-year-old Include filly is the seventh stakes horse already for her sire in 2019 and his 53rd lifetime stakes winner, and the Airdrie stallion just recently surpassed the $55 million mark in career progeny earnings.
After joining the Todd Pletcher barn early this year, following her purchase by Madaket Stables, Elayne Stables and Brian Martin, Another Broad was a solid fourth in the Royal Delta S. (G3) for her new connections. Stretched out to 1 1/8-miles for the first time in the Top Flight, Another Broad was allowed to relax near the back of the field by jockey Manny Franco, while Frostie Anne opened up a six-length lead in the first half-mile.
The pacesetter’s lead diminished on the turn, with Another Broad still biding her time several lengths from the front. She gathered momentum straightening for home, found a seam between horses with a furlong to go and emerged with the lead soon after, coasting home to win by 1 1/4-lengths in 1:52.99 on a muddy main track.
“She shipped up here from Palm Beach Downs on Wednesday in good form. We galloped her at Belmont for a couple of days and she was ready to run,” said Byron Hughes, assistant to Pletcher. “We wanted her to get into a nice rhythm and Manny was very patient with her. Coming around the second turn, he found a good spot and he was able to split horses and get up. That was nice.”
Another Broad has won four of her nine starts, with two seconds, and upped her career bankroll to $222,095 with the victory.
Another Broad is out of the stakes winner Dynamic Deputy and is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Dynamic Strike. She was bred by Fitzhugh, LLC.
