First-Crop Sire sensation Cairo Prince chalked up his fourth maiden special weight winner of the month on Aug. 21 when Marquee Prince rolled to a 3 1/2-length win going a mile at Indiana Downs.
The bay colt is the sixth individual winner, all in maiden special weights, for his sire, who ranks third on the Freshman Sire List by both winners and progeny earnings.
Trying the main track for the first time after a turf debut last month at Ellis Park, Marquee Prince was in a three-way duel for the lead before taking over for good with about a half-mile to run. He widened his lead the rest of the way to get the distance on the muddy surface in 1:39.01.
The winner is owned by Rick, Donna and Jeff Awtrey and was bred by Brereton C. Jones. Marquee Prince’s dam Try to Remember had a trio of stakes placings and is the dam of stakes winner Holiday Soiree.
Marquee Prince sold for $215,000 at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings sale.
