2014 continues to be a very important year for Airdrie’s young sire Istan. Having already garnered national attention through the exploits of his small but incredibly talented 3-year-old crop- a group that includes Grade II winner Istanford, Grade III winner and Grade I placed Albano and the Grade III Derby Trial placed colt Myositis Dan from a crop of just 12 registered foals- Istan is at it again with his jaw-dropping 2-year-old debut winner Chief Istan. Sent off the 9-5 favorite on the basis of his flashy worktab, the handsome Istan colt made that price look like thievery as he powered away to a nearly 8-length win while stopping the clock in an ultra-impressive 57 1/5.
Following the race, trainer Larry Jones said that the 2014 goal for Chief Istan would be the Grade III $1,000,000 Delta Jackpot en route to a 2015 campaign at the Fair Grounds.
Thank you to all the members of the Larry Jones and Airdrie Stud teams on a big win for a colt with a big future!
