GOLDEN WEEKEND FOR THE SILVERS: SILVER MEDALLION’S WIN IN THE GIII FT. LAUDERDALE S. CAPS HUGE WEEKEND FOR BADGE OF SILVER

While 2012 is still in its infancy, all early indicators are that it is shaping up to be a big, BIG year for Badge of Silver.  Already the sire of 6 impressive winners in the new year, Badge of Silver enjoyed a monsterous past weekend when his talented son Silver Medallion led a trio of standout performances:

1/13: Lulu Wong established herself as a stakes quality sophomore with an easy win in an Oaklawn allowance on Friday.  Sent straight to the lead, Lulu Wong never appeared threatened as she drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths and set the stage for her entry into the 3-year-old filly stakes schedule at the famed Arkansas track.

1/13: Three-year-olds at Gulfstream always attract a lot of attention, and none shone brighter on Friday than Badge of Silver’s Silver Max.  Just as Lulu Wong wasted no time in grabbing the lead for good in her impressive effort, Silver Max was also always in control of this tough maiden special weight field, gunning immediately to the front and lengthening his lead to an easy 3 1/4 lengths at the wire.  Trained by Dale Romans, this looks to be a colt sitting on a big sophomore campaign.

1/14:  Following Saturday’s Grade III Ft Lauderdale Stakes, there is little doubt that Silver Medallion has taken his place among the elite turf horses in the nation.  Though forced to sit far back from slow fractions, Silver Medallion unleashed his powerful run at the head of the stretch en route to a comfortable win- his secong graded stakes tally in a row.  He will now enter the Grade 1 Gulfstream Turf Handicap as one of the favorites as he looks to continue to establish his reputation as one of America’s top older performers.
