Two Trail Sioux had opened up 4 lengths on the field going down the backstretch but was challenged on both sides entering the stretch. She responded well when asked and had extra gas in the tank for another surge to be clear by a length at the wire.

Second to Rock Hard Ten in last seasons Grade 1 Malibu S., blinkered Lava Man was content to stalk in second behind pacesetter Ace Blue through fractions of :23 and :47. Asked for run rounding the turn Lava Man put Ace Blue away, opened up a clear lead and held on gamely to be clear by a length at the wire.

Sweet Talker was stretching a 16th further from her Edgewood Stakes win and her usual front running style pulled her into a speed duel with Royal Bean. She led through the first half mile then shook off Royal Bean in the stretch but was caught inside the sixteenth pole by favorite Rich in Spirit.
