Creative Cause colt up in time to take $100,000 Zuma Beach S.

My Boy Jack uncorked a big rally in the stretch of the Santa Anita Park turf course to win Monday’s $100,000 Zuma Beach S. by nearly a length in a very swift 1:33.84 for the mile.

Though he was still a maiden coming into the race, the 2-year-old Creative Cause colt was beaten just a half-length in the Del Mar Turf Juvenile S. on Sept. 3, and was well-regarded by the public in the Zuma Beach.

After some trouble going into the first turn, My Boy Jack went wide and track in eight through the first five furlongs. He began to pass horses with three furlongs to run, and was in full flight in the stretch. Rolling past the final three foes inside the furlong marker, jockey Kent Desormeaux wrapped up late to seal the win.

“He’s been sitting on a win and with maturity, he chose the right time to show it today,” said trainer Keith Desormeaux. “I hope this win set him up for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1, Nov. 3 at Del Mar). That’s what we strive for, so if they let us in, we’re running.”

My Boy Jack, owned by Don’t Tell My Wife Stables and Monomoy Stables , upped his earnings to $103,145. The dark bay colt was bred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones.

For Creative Cause, My Boy Jack represents his eighth stakes winner of 2017, the most for any Second-Crop sire. The past weekend, Pavel, winner of the Sept. 4 Smarty Jones S. (G3), placed in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup in his first start against older horses.
