Cairo Prince tallied his second Saratoga maiden special weight winner in the past three days on Saturday when Cairo Cat rallied in the stretch to win the seven furlong affair for 2-year-old fillies by a head.
Moved from the turf to the main track after early rains, the race went postward with a field of eight. Cairo Cat sat patiently in sixth before kicking into gear with a quarter-mile to run. Teachable Moment looked like a winner with a sixteenth to run, but Cairo Cat would not be denied, getting up in the final jumps to take the winner’s share of the $85,000 purse.
Owned by Walking L Thoroughbreds, Cairo Cat was bred in Kentucky by Clifton Farm, Inc. She was a $130,000 purchase by her owners in the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearlings sale.
With four winners and over $250,000 in progeny earnings to date, Cairo Prince sits in second on the Kentucky First-Crop Sire list.
