Cairo Prince upped his First-Crop win total to eight on Sept. 4 when the filly Cairo Babe drew off to a 3 1/2-length maiden special weight win at Retama.
Breaking from post five, Cairo Babe went right to the front to engage in a spirited battle for the lead with Sara’s Effort. The duo were inseparable until the top of the stretch, when Cairo Babe took command and pulled away to win handily over the sloppy going (VIDEO).
The winner is owned by Champion Racing Stable and was bred by Jay Goodwin, Jake Delhomme and Nathan Granger. Cairo Babe’s dam Gimme Sugar is a sister to a pair of stakes winners.
Remarkably, all eight of Cairo Prince’s winners have been in maiden special weight races, and in a testament to his ability to get runners anywhere, they have won at seven different tracks at distances from five furlongs to a mile.
