The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale at Timonium produced excellent returns for juveniles from the first crop of American Freedom, with eight individuals selling for an average of $127,375, greater than 12 times his stud fee.
Topping the list were a pair of colts that sold on Tuesday, with hip No. 580 bringing $375,000 and hip No. 424 going for $225,000.
Hip 580, consigned by All Dreams Equine, agent, went to Klaravich Stables. Already named Djokovic, the chestnut youngster was bred in Kentucky and is a half-brother to a trio of winners. His dam C R Vexora is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Vexor.
Hip 424 was offered by Top Line Sales, agent and sold to West Point Thoroughbreds. The dark bay’s pedigree is among the best of the sale: his dam Deputy Saint, a stakes producer, is a half-sister to two-time Horse of the Year Curlin. This is also the family of champion 2-year-old filly Countess Diana and Grade 1 winner Exogenous.
American Freedom, who stands this year for $10,000, had his first winner when his first runner American Bound won a Keeneland maiden special weight on April 2.
