Having broken his maiden by more than 11 lengths at Hawthorne, Instill further showed his mastery over that surface with a runaway, 5 length victory in the $100,000 Jim Edgar Futurity on Saturday. Taking the lead easily at the head of the stretch, Instill was never asked until deep stretch and responded beautifully, bounding away by an effortless 5 lengths at the wire. Just a day earlier, Proud Citizen’s ultra talented colt, The Darp, left the Fair Ground’s crowd awestruck with his thoroughly dominant 9 1/4 length win over a tough maiden special field going a mile. Ridden with great confidence, the Ronnie Werner trained, Ben Berger and Connie Scanlon owned colt exploded away in the stretch; justifying the bettor’s choice in sending him away the 4-5 favorite.
