American Freedom colt wins spirited stretch duel

Red-hot First-Crop sire American Freedom got his fourth winner in the past nine days Saturday at Monmouth Park with Act of Valor winning a race-long duel with Pretty Dude by a half-length.

American Freedom now has nine individual North American winners, second best among all First-Crop sires.

Act of Valor came out running and was close to the pace set by Pretty Dude. That duo began to edge clear of the field just before entering the stretch. Pretty Dude could get no closer than a half-length all the way to the wire, with the rest of the field some ten lengths behind.

Act of Valor is owned and was bred by Gary and Mary West. The chestnut colt is the second foal out of stakes-placed Run Zippy Run, whose first foal Exogen placed in this year’s Cicada S. at Aqueduct.
