A pair of weanling colts from the exciting first crop of multiple Grade 2 winner Cairo Prince highlighted Friday’s session of the Keeneland November sale.
For the top 10 weanling first-crop sires of 2016, Cairo Prince has the highest ROI of any stallion with more than one lot sold.
Leading the way on Friday for the Airdrie stallion was hip No. 1091, a chestnut colt consigned by Airdrie and sold for $200,000 to Blue Sky Stable. The colt’s dam, Visavis, was second in the Eight Belles S. (G3) and is a sister to a pair of stakes winners.
Not far behind in the hammer price was hip No. 1230, consigned by Gainesway and went for $180,000 to Rebecca Galbraith. The Kentucky-bred colt is out of the top producer Evening Princess, who has produce one stakes winner and a pair of stakes-placed winners from five foals. She is also a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Great Notion.
Through the first four sessions of the Nov. 8-20 sale, Cairo Prince’s weanlings have averaged $131,000, nearly nine times his announced 2017 stud fee of $15,000.
