Twisted Tom overcomes trouble in game New York Derby win

Twisted Tom, a 3-year-old son of Creative Cause, fought to a well-earned three-quarter length victory in the $150,000 New York Derby at Finger Lakes on July 22.

Now a three-time stakes winner, Twisted Tom is Creative Cause’s leading money earner of 2017. He took both the Private Terms S. and Federico Tesio S. at Laurel Park this Spring, and has earned $350,131 for his owners Cobra Farm, R R Partners and Head of Plains Partners.

After tracking the pace on the outside for the first six furlongs, Twisted Tom had to fight off Broken Engagement, who repeatedly bumped the winner in upper stretch, to secure the victory. The final time for the 1 1/16-miles was 1:44.52 (VIDEO).

Twisted Tom was bred in New York by Dr. William Wilmot and Dr. Joan Taylor and is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Tiffany Twisted, who is a sister to the multiple graded stakes winner Incurable Optimist.
