Summer Front, whose first crop are weanlings of 2017, had his first horses bring excellent returns at the recently concluded Keeneland November sale.
With nine lots sold for an average of $100,667, Summer Front was one of only six first-year sires to have a six-figure average.
Topping the Airdrie stallion’s list was hip No. 1091, consigned by the farm and sold to prominent buyer Steve Young, agent, for $200,000. The bay colt is out of the Distorted Humor mare Psychadelacized, whose sister El Fasto produced Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Believe You Can.
Other highlights for Summer Front include hip No. 2356, a $170,000 purchase by Davant Latham, agent. The colt is from the same family as top runners Zensational, Sonic Mule and Recruiting Ready. Summer Front’s top filly of the sale was hip No. 1135, also consigned by Airdrie and bought by Young for $135,000. The well-connected filly is out of the graded stakes winner Silver Reunion, a daughter of Mrs. Revere S. (G2) winner Silver Comic.
Summer Front has been one of the more popular young stallions in his two seasons at Airdrie, breeding 256 mares over the span. He will command a fee of $10,000 live foal for the 2018 breeding season.
