Cairo Prince, who was one of the hottest First-Crop sires at the Keeneland September Yearling sale, has had more excellent results as the fall auction calendar shifts to the weanling sales.
Between the Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland November sales, the Airdrie Stud stallion had 10 lots bring at least $100,000, topped by a $225,000 colt at Fasig-Tipton.
The colt, hip No. 56 at Fasig, was consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, and went to Cheyenne Stables and Jim Wells. His dam is the stakes winner Blushing Dixie.
Turning to Keeneland, hip No. 1999 was the top seller for her sire, at $170,000. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, Inc., the filly went to de Meric Stables, agent. The filly is from the same family as Preakness S. (G1)-placed Social Inclusion.
Hip No. 750, consigned by Penn Sales, brought a winning bid of $160,000 from Eldemere Bloodstock. The filly is the second foal out of Super Divine, who is a sister to a trio of stakes winners. Closed behind in price was hip No. 1369, consigned by Pope McLean. De Meric was also the winning bidder for this colt, at $155,000. His dam Heirness is sister to millionaire and multiple Grade 2 winner Smooth Air and Overdriven, winner of the Sanford S. (G2).
With 28 weanling lots sold this year, Cairo Prince’s average of $89,643 is nearly six times his bred-on stud fee.
