The four-year-old filly, Proud Reunion, broke through with her first Stakes win when taking the Jersey Lily S. at Sam Houston on February 24th. Bred and owned by Brereton C. Jones, Proud Reunion won a Maiden Special Weight at Delaware Park last summer, and followed up with a win in a valuable allowance at Kentucky Downs in September. Moving into stronger competition, Proud Reunion was inconvenienced by some slowly-run events that failed to showcase her turn-of-foot. She closed with a rattle at Keeneland in a ‘two-other-than’ allowance in October and missed by a rapidly-diminishing nostril. On Saturday she sat closer to a modest pace and proved best in the stretch under a well-timed ride by Sophie Doyle for trainer, Tom Proctor.
Proud Reunion was sired by the late Proud Citizen, out of Silver Reunion, by Harlan’s Holiday. Brereton Jones’ involvement in the family goes back to his private purchase of Now That’s Funny, Proud Reunion’s 3rd dam. From Now That’s Funny, Governor Jones bred the triple European Champion, Lucayan Prince, the multiple Graded Stakes-winning stallion, Comic Strip, as well as Silver Comic, who won the G2 Mrs. Revere at Churchill Downs. Apart from producing the aforementioned Silver Reunion, Silver Comic is also the dam of the stakes filly Her Star, and the promising young Airdrie broodmares, Constantinople and Majestic Smile, as well as an exciting yearling filly by Airdrie resident, Summer Front. Constantinople has produced the undefeated 3yo filly Hey Niki, as well as an exceptional first-crop filly born in February to the young Airdrie stallion, Upstart. Majestic Smile’s first foal was a classy Summer Front filly that was scooped up by James Layden for $100,000 at the Keeneland November Sale last fall. Silver Reunion is proving as adept a broodmare as she was a racehorse. Her first 3 foals are winners, including the stakes-winning Proud Reunion, while her fourth produce, More Fun Again, was recently runner-up on debut at Fairgrounds. Her 2yo filly by Istan was recently named Lifetime Memory, and her yearling, another outstanding filly by Summer Front, sold to Steve Young for $135,000 last November. Having produced five fillies in a row, there is no shortage of quality to continue the development of this top-class family.
