Qahira sparkling win Sunday at Del Mar gave Cairo Prince his second TDN Rising Star in as many days and the 18th First-Crop winner for the Airdrie stallion. The stellar weekend put Cairo Prince’s progeny earnings over the $1 million mark, one of just three freshman sires with that distinction.
One day after Mihos was named a Rising Star at Aqueduct, Qahira was arguably even more visually impressive as the Bob Baffert trained flew through the stretch to easily handle her foes by nearly five lengths, stopping the timer in 1:10.59 for the six furlongs while being eased up late by Drayden Van Dyke.
The bay filly was making her debut for the Baoma Corporation, who collared her for $375,000 out of the OBS June 2018 sale following a bullet quarter-mile breeze in :20 2/5 seconds.
Out of Motel Lass, Qahira is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Stormin’ Lyon and stakes winner Quick Flip.
