Walking L Thoroughbreds’ principal, Scott Leads, and trainer Kenny McPeek enjoyed a Graded Stakes victory at Saratoga yesterday when Fighting Seabee, from the first crop of Summer Front, went wire to wire in the G3 With Anticipation S. Purchased as a yearling from the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in 2018, Fighting Seabee is now two-for-two in the afternoons having also won impressively on debut at Ellis Park on July 6th. Expertly ridden by Brian J. Hernandez, Fighting Seabee led through the first turn, avoiding some traffic congestion behind him, was pressed to his outside by Fly Fly Away down the backstretch, and when turned loose turning for home held off a sustained challenge from the fancied Field Pass to prevail by long length. Fighting Seabee showed some of his sire’s memorable turn of foot by running the last 5/16th in a eye-popping 28 1/5 seconds, with closing splits of 22 3/5, and 5 3/5 for the final 1/16th.
Bred by Gestut Zur Kuste AG, and raised by our friends at the historic Runnymede Farm in Paris, KY, Fighting Seabee is the only reported foal out of the Broken Vow mare, Broke N Dixie, whose dam, Blushing Dixie is a Stakes-winning half-sister to Queen Greeley (SW), from the family of Tactile (G1) and Brushing Gloom (G3).

In 2018, Walking L Thoroughbreds enjoyed their first Graded Stakes winner when Cairo Cat, a first-crop son of Cairo Prince, took the G3 Iroquois S. at Churchill Downs. He was also Cairo Prince’s first Graded winner and was sourced by Kenny McPeek at the previous year’s Fasig-Tipton July Sale. Cairo Cat is currently pointing towards the G3 Smarty Jones S. at PARX.
