Undefeated Creative Cause 2YO filly scores handily in stakes debut

Spanish Point took Gulfstream Park’s House Party S. by nearly two lengths on Saturday to notch her second win in as many starts.

The Creative Cause 2-year-old broke her maiden by 5 1/4-lengths in her Sept. 26 debut at Belmont Park, and turned in another strong performance Saturday. Sitting just off the pace of One Hot Drama early on, Spanish Point came on even terms and took over the lead with three furlongs to run. Sound Machine was a menacing presence in upper stretch, but Spanish Point turned her away to win by 1 3/4-lengths in a solid 1:10.79 for the six furlongs.

“I told (jockey Emisael) Jaramillo to play it by ear on the break because I don’t like her on the lead. When I saw her sitting behind the horse on the lead and got a little opening on the outside, I felt pretty comfortable,” trainer Jorge Abreu said. “She was training really good.”

The winner is owned by her breeder Limestone Thoroughbreds, along with Dr. Wilfrid Robinson. Spanish Point is the first runner out of the Mineshaft mare Ocean Foam.

Creative Cause, whose progeny have earned in excess of $5 million to date in 2019, is a top-10 Fourth-Crop Sire in several categories, including by progeny earnings, winners, black type horses, and graded stakes horses. He will stand for $15,000 next year at Airdrie.
