A colt from First-Crop sire Upstart lit up the board during the latter half of Wednesday’s session of the OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale when prominent buyer Mike Ryan went to $600,000 to secure hip No. 598.
At that point, he was the highest-priced colt of the sale by any sire.
Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, the bay colt is out of the Bernstein mare Blue Beryl, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Brigand and Sky Music.
Upstart’s offspring have done incredibly well at the March 17-18, with all six that have sold as of press time for at least $100,000. His current sales average of $260,833 is more than 26 times his 2020 stud fee.
