A filly from the first crop of Airdrie stallion Upstart shared the fastest time for a furlong during the June 24 Under Tack show for next week’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in Training sale. The sale will be held June 29-30. Upstart has a total of six lots in the catalog.
The filly, hip No. 173, zipped through the distance in 10 seconds flat for consignor Cary Frommer (VIDEO).
“I never expect a bullet work, but I was expecting her to work well. And we weren’t disappointed,” Frommer said. “I’ve loved her since the day we bought her from this sale in October (the 2019 Midlantic Yearling sale, for $120,000). Everybody who has been around her has loved her.”
Bred by Dark Hollow Farm, the dark bay filly is out of the stakes-winner Pure Prize mare Plum.
Led by a $600,000 colt at the OBS March sale, Upstart is the third-leading First-Crop sire of 2-year-olds by average price and is the only freshman sire with a six-figure median sale price.
