Brereton Jones’ homebred 4-year-old filly Indian Pride fought off Blamed in a spirited stretch duel to win the Shine Again S. on July 17 by a half-length for her first stakes victory.
Ridden by Javier Castellano, Indian Pride made the lead soon after the start and was under some restraint for the trip down the backstretch. She came off the rail around the turn, allowing Joy Epifora (ARG) to take the lead at the top of the stretch. Indian Pride rallied to re-take the top spot, only to have Blamed pass her on the outside. Indian Pride wasn’t finished, and rallied yet again, finishing the seven furlongs in a quick 1:21.63 on a fast track.
“She showed what she’s made of today. I was really proud of her effort,” trainer Chad Brown said. “She’s always been a horse that had immense talent. When she broke her maiden here last summer it was breathtaking really, arguably the most impressive win we had last year.”
Brown was referring to the bay filly’s debut, which she won by eight lengths. Her latest victory upper her record to 3-0-1 in four starts, while earning $157,550.
Indian Pride is out of the Indian Charlie mare Ms. Cornstalk and is a half-sister to Biofuel, Jones’ Canadian Horse of the Year of 2010 and a champion two and three, as well as Tu Endie Wei, the Canadian Champion 2-year-old filly of 2011.
