Speaktomeofsummer gives connections an emotional Lake Placid S. (G2) win

Red-hot Second-Crop sire Summer Front got his second stakes winner and fourth overall winner of the week on July 19 when Speaktomeofsummer prevailed by a head over Stunning Sky in the $150,000 Lake Placid S. (G2) on the Saratoga turf.

The win was the first graded stakes victory for the 3-year-old dark bay, who had won the Chelsey Flower S. last November at Aqueduct.

Speaktomeofsummer broke well from her inside post, but was pinched back going into the first turn and found herself about six lengths from the front as the field entered the backstretch. After six furlongs in a moderate 1:13.66, Speaktomeofsummer was still waiting for room behind horses. When an opening developed in the stretch, Joel Rosario guided his mount through the opening and outran Stunning Sky to finish the 1 1/8-miles in 1:49.44 on the firm turf.

“The filly has trained well since the last race at Belmont,” winning trainer Christophe Clement said. “She’s by Summer Front, which is a big deal for us as we trained him, plus he’s a young sire at the moment. She belongs to Mr. [Tom] Moore, who also owned Summer Front, so it is even more meaningful.”

The win upped Speaktomeofsummer’s record to 3-0-0 in five starts and earnings of $175,500.

Pedigree Notes from the TDN:

Sold as a weanling for $135,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November sale, Speaktomeofsummer became the second stakes winner of the week for Summer Front, who was represented by Mystic Lake Derby winner Summer Assault Wednesday at Canterbury. The Airdrie Stud stallion has now had three winners at the young Saratoga meet, with Eternal Summer breaking his maiden on opening day and My Sassy Sarah taking the eighth race allowance Sunday.

Speaktomeofsummer is the third graded stakes winner from two crops to race for Summer Front, who is also the sire of Fountain of Youth S. (G2) winner Ete Indien and last year’s With Anticipation S. (G3) winner Fighting Seabee. Speaktomeofsummer’s dam, the Brereton Jones homebred Silver Reunion, won the 2009 Riskaverse S. and was second in the 2010 Ballston Spa S. (G2) over the Saratoga turf course. Silver Reunion produced a full-sister to Speaktomeofsummer last year and a filly by Collected this year.
