Lady Goldstart won a race-long duel with Decade to break her maiden by a nose going five furlongs over the Ellis Park main track on Saturday afternoon.
The bay filly, who was making her first start, is Upstart’s third winner from his first crop. Along with that trio, the top-10 Freshman Sire is represented by Uptown, who has already placed second in a pair of stakes races.
Lady Goldstart and Decade locked up right at the outset on Saturday and never had more than a length separating them at any point. The winner got the head bob on the wire after closing the half-length gap in the final sixteenth.
Bred by Brereton C. Jones, Lady Upstart is the latest of four winners out of Arlington-Washington Lassie (G3) winner Gold Edge. Jones consigned and sold Lady Upstart to her owners Winchester Place Thoroughbreds at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
