Manor House flew through the stretch to score a 12 1/4-length maiden special weight win Saturday at Laurel Park to become the 18th winner for Upstart, the second-most for any First-Crop sire.
Among Upstart’s top-class group of first crop winners is Reinvestment Risk, would go on to place second in both the Champagne S. (G1) and Hopeful S. (G1).
Camp Pendleton broke on top in Saturday’s one-mile race, but Manor House slid up the inside and passed him in the first quarter-mile. Up by 1 ½-lengths after a half-mile in :47.50, Manor House began to pull away from the field and was all by himself for the stretch run. After being eased up in the final sixteenth, he completed the distance in 1:38.31.
Manor House is owned by Newtown Anner Stud Farm and was bred in Florida by David Berman. Out of Cascina, Manor House is a half-brother to stakes winner Bella Vincenza.
