Graded stakes winner American Freedom was represented by his first winner Friday at Keeneland when his first starter American Bound captured a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies by 1 1/2-lengths.
Breaking from post 1 in the eight-horse field, American Bound set the pace from the outset, covering the first quarter-mile in :22.09 to take a one-length lead. Coming into the stretch the bay filly began to widen her lead and won comfortably over Bode by You in :52.01 on the fast main track.
The winner is owned by Terry Hutto and was bred in Kentucky by Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm. She is out of Grace Abounds, who is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Setsuko and from the family of multiple graded stakes winners Souvenir Copy and Doneraile Court.
American Freedom, who defeated multiple Grade 1 winners Gun Runner and Exaggerator in the Travers S. (G1), has had a banner week both on the track and in the sales ring. On Wednesday at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream 2-year-old sale, the Airdrie stallion had a $550,000 filly consigned by Wavertree Stables sell to Black Type / R.A. Hill.
American Freedom is standing the 2021 season at Airdrie for a fee of $10,000 S&N.
