Upstart filly breaks maiden in stakes debut

After a pair of close maiden special weight losses, One Step Ahead broke into the winner’s column with a gallant effort in the $100,000 Prairie Gold Lassie S. Saturday night at Prairie Meadows (WATCH RACE).

The 2-year-old daughter of Upstart was most recently second to Verylittlecents, who came back to the Ellis Park Debutante over the weekend. One Step Ahead verified her class in Saturday’s six-furlong affair, wearing down Summer Lightning in the stretch to win by 1 1/2-lengths.

One Step Ahead is owned by Michael Faber’s Dare to Dream Stable. Her bankroll now stands at an even $72,000. She is the latest foal out of Career Oriented, herself a two-time stakes winnner.

One Step Ahead was bred by Needham Betz and sold for $65,000 at the 2021 OBS March 2-year-old sale. The bay filly is one of Upstart’s six stakes horses for the top-10 Second-Crop stallion.
