Cairo Memories’ powerful stretch run during her five-length maiden special weight win Sunday at Del Mar earned the 2-year-old daughter of Cairo Prince a “TDN Rising Star” tag.
The first two furlongs were somewhat troubled as Cairo Memories was shuffled and had to check back going into the first of two turns. She settled nicely for Kent Desormeaux as the field entered the backstretch, tracking about five lengths from the leaders.
With about three furlongs to run, Cairo Memories began a three-wide move that carried her to the lead at the top of the stretch. Set down for the drive, she strode away powerfully to win with ease in 1:37.64 for the mile on the firm turf.
The winner is owned by Schroeder Farms LLC and was bred by Airdrie’s Brereton C. Jones. Cairo Memories’ dam Incarnate Memories is also the dam of Cairo Prince’s stakes winner Cariba.
Cairo Prince is currently ranked second on the Fourth-Crop sire list, with progeny earnings nearing $4.3 million and 91 individual winners, including 15 2-year-olds this year.
