American Freedom now has 12 First-Crop winners following Dia de Sol’s gutsy maiden special weight win at a mile on Oct. 18 at Parx Racing (WATCH RACE).
The 2-year-old filly fought off a fierce challenge from Golden Essence in the stretch-long battle. The duo set the stage after overtaking early pacesetter Martini Twist just before straightening for home. Dia de Sol was narrowly headed at the top of the lane, then fought back gamely on the inside to secure the win.
Dia de Sol is owned by Soldi Stable LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall. The chestnut filly is the first foal to race out of Inspired Dream, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Conquest Top Gun. This is also the family of Grade 1 winner Off the Tracks and Grade 2 winner and sire Concord Point.
American Freedom, who finished ahead Gun Runner in both the Travers S. (G1) and Haskell Inv. (G1), has gotten winners at distance from five furlongs up to a mile. At the 2021 2-year-old sales, his progeny have averaged nearly 10 times his stud fee.
