The first reported foal by Airdrie Stud’s grade 1 winner Happy Saver arrived earlier last week in Kentucky, the farm reported Jan. 30. Appropriately the filly was born at Wertheimer et Frere’s Hagyard Farm, the birthplace of Happy Saver.
Jose Sarinana bred the filly out of the young Giant’s Causeway mare Planeta, whose dam, Meteor Miracle, is a half sister to 1983 Vosburgh Stakes (G1) winner A Phenomenon (Tentam) and 1988 Spinaway Stakes (G1) winner Seattle Meteor (Seattle Slew). Sarinana is the assistant manager at Hagyard Farm.
Happy Saver, by Super Saver , raced in the colors of owner/breeders and brothers Alain and Gérard Wertheimer. He was undefeated in four starts at 3 that included victories in the 2020 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1) and Federico Tesio Stakes. He followed with runner-up efforts at 4 and 5 in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Clark Stakes (G1), Metropolitan Handicap (G1), and Whitney Stakes (G1). He retired with a 5-5-1 record from 13 starts and earned $1,258,100.
The Wertheimers partnered with Airdrie for Happy Saver’s stallion career.
Sarinana said he is “delighted with the foal” and even more pleased because he raised the filly’s accomplished sire.
“Happy Saver was our best foal, best yearling, and went on to be our best racehorse in my time here at Hagyard Farm. I wouldn’t expect any less from his foals and having this well-balanced filly carrying Happy Saver’s traits makes me very happy,” he said.
Happy Saver stands this year for $10,000.
