PROUD CITIZEN TO STAND AT AIRDRIE.

PROUD CITIZEN ENTERS STUD FOR 2004
BRILLIANT TWO-YEAR-OLD SPEED AND ABILITY TO CARRY IT THE CLASSIC DISTANCES.

PROUD CITIZEN is a Grade 2 stakes winner, with outstanding looks and conformation, by sire-of-sires GONE WEST, the progenitor of such highly-regarded sires as Elusive Quality, Grand Slam and Mr. Greeley.

From Northern Dancer’s immediate family, Proud Citizen broke his maiden at Belmont in June of his 2YO year. He led all the way in the 5 1/2 furlong event, widening to cruise home by 9 3/4 lengths in 1:02 4/5 after posting fractions of :22 1/5, :45 2/5 and :57 1/5 under a hand ride.

After knee surgery that September, he made his first start back in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) then two weeks later followed with a ringing 3 1/4 length, wire-to-wire, score in Keeneland’s Coolmore Lexington Stakes (G2). Two weeks later he was second in the Kentucky Derby (G1), ahead of Perfect Drift, Medaglia d’Oro, Came Home, Harlan’s Holiday, Johanesburg, Essence of Dubai, etc. Then, another two weeks later, he was third in the Preakness (G1), beaten 1 1/2 lengths, again defeating Medaglia d’Oro and Harlan’s Holiday, but suffered a condylar fracture three weeks later in the Belmont (G1) which required the insertion of four screws that severly compromised his future efforts.
