LAVA MAN was pitted against a field of 12 three year olds, five of which were graded stakes winners in the Malibu Stakes on December 26th . This was his fifth stakes in a row; he has hit the board in all of them. Most recently Lava Man was 2nd in the On Trust Handicap 85 on the 13th of November at Hollywood Park. Breaking out of post position 7, Lava Man broke quickly to settle into fourth, making his move from the outside in the stretch to finish second to Rock Hard Ten by a half.
