NONINO, a two-year-old bay colt out of the Pleasant Tap mare Tap for Gold, broke his maiden in his second start yesterday at Del Mar. The colt sold at Barretts 2YO-in-training sale in March for $50,000.
Sent postward with long odds in this 10 horse field, Nonino broke well and saved ground on the inside while the pacesetter pulled clear by 7 lengths from the pack. He angled out leaving the bend, bid between horses gamely and held on under urging to win by a neck.
