Top older horse FLASHY BULL, winner of this year’s Grade 1 $750,000 Stephen Foster Handicap, has been retired to Brereton and Elizabeth Jones’s Airdrie Stud. A winner of four consecutive races in 2007, culminating with his win in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster, Flashy Bull was rated one of the top older horses in training before being retired. Second to Grade 1 winner Bluegrass Cat in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes as a two-year-old and besting Grade 1 winners Corinthian and Jazil in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at three, Flashy Bull took his place as a top handicap horse with his win in the Stephen Foster at four.
Bret Jones of Airdrie said Flashy Bull reminds him of another young Airdrie stallion, “I think you can draw a lot of similarities to Include, in that both are absolute physical standouts and both are total outcrosses for all the Mr. Prospector line mares. While Flashy Bull was far more precocious than Include, both really took off as they matured and stretched out and I think both will be at their best siring horses that can go after the big money around two turns. We are very, very excited to be putting Flashy Bull in the barn, and very grateful to Terry Finley and his West Point partners for giving us the opportunity.”
By Champion Holy Bull out of the multiple stakes producing mare Iridescence, Flashy Bull hails from the same female family as champion grass horse and young Kentucky sire Perfect Soul. A $205,000 sales horse, Flashy Bull retires with earnings of $844,313 racing for owners West Point Thoroughbreds and trainer Kieran McLaughlin.
Flashy Bull will stand for a stud fee of $10,000.
