SLEW CITY SLEW PENSIONED

SLEW CITY SLEW, a son of Seattle Slew and an Airdrie Stud tenant since 1990, has been retired from stud duty due to declining fertility.

A multiple Grade 1 winner and Millionaire on the track when racing for Joseph Allen and Tayhill Stable, SLEW CITY SLEW carved out a niche as an affordable Central Kentucky stallion known for passing on both ability and soundness to his progeny. To date, his offspring have earned no less than $43 Million and have been represented by 54 individual stakes winners. Chief among these was his son LAVA MAN, a seven-time Grade 1 Winner and earner of more that $5.6 Million. LAVA MAN retired as one of the greatest California performers of all time, matching Native Diver’s remarkable 3 consecutive Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup triumphs and becoming the first horse to win a Grade 1 on both dirt, turf and synthetic tracks. Other notable Slew City Slew progeny include Grade 1 stakes winner SIS CITY and Canadian Horse of the Year WIN CITY.

Airdrie Stud’s Brereton Jones said “Slew City Slew was the quintessential racehorse sire. He established a great reputation amongst breeders as an affordable stallion that would get you a good, sound, tough racehorse and that’s why he was able to stay competitive in the tough Kentucky market for all these years. He’s been awfully good to us for a long time, and he’ll continue to live out the rest of his life in the best of care.”
